Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are ideal for walking around the neighborhood or running. Their compact design makes them easy to manoeuvre even in tight areas.

If you are looking for a smooth ride with your baby, select models with 360deg front wheels with swivel. They are, however, susceptible to punctures. Be prepared with a repair set.

Sturdy frame

New figures show that the three-wheeled buggies that were the symbol of the noughties that had more money than common sense, are in rapid decline. They have been replaced by four-wheelers that can handle a wider range of terrain, yet still look stylish and easy to push.

The bigger the wheels are, the better your buggy can deal with uneven surfaces and bumpy pavements. The larger wheels, both front and rear allow you to maneuver and more stable while walking downhill or in difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy out with a newborn baby and a 3 wheel stroller set-year-old child and found it very robust. It was able to handle grass, cobbles and rough pavements as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. She said that it felt solid to push, and very solid on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable, so require occasionally pumping) offer built-in suspension that was very comfortable for my kids.

Another thing to consider is the seat size and shape. It is important for the seat to be big enough to allow your child to feel comfortable and allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies have a lie-flat option that lets your child face you, while others only permit a parent-facing option.

An excellent option for taking on off-road or muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. This buggy is suitable for a single child as early as birth and can be modified to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from birth to age 4 and comes with a bumper, raincover, an improved 5-point harness, and a huge padded seat. The storage options are good as well, with a large basket, zip pockets on the hood, and an easy-to-access pouch on the back of the seat unit.

Wheels with a larger diameter

Larger wheels mean your buggy will be more stable on uneven terrain, which is ideal for off-road buggies. They also allow you to maneuver the pushchair in tight spaces. Some three-wheeled buggies feature rotating wheels on the front, which assist you in navigating tight corners. Others are designed for running and have fixed wheels that lock to provide increased speed and stability. This is particularly useful when you crash into the kerb or a tree. The front wheel will be lifted slightly to avoid hitting it.

The drawback of having larger wheels is that they make some buggies quite wide and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This can be an issue if you plan to use it for jogging or you need to get through doorways that are narrow when traveling. Most models come with compact folding options, which let you remove the front wheels and store them in a more compact manner.

Easy to manoeuvre

One of the major advantages to a three 3 wheel all terrain buggy buggy is that it is much more maneuverable especially with a child on the way. The way in which they are constructed means that the front wheels turn on a dime and are incredibly easy to maneuver which makes them perfect for tricky terrain such as parks, cobbles and bumpy pavements as well as dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried an all-wheeler with her toddler, and she said: "The Terrain is a delight to navigate in rough terrain. The front swivel wheel was especially useful." I was also awed by how well it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. It was extremely stable when for descending or on uneven terrain."

The only drawback to this great maneuverability is that the three wheel buggy's bigger wheels sometimes mean that it can be difficult to maneuver in tight spaces - something to keep in mind especially if you live in a urban region. If this is the case, a 4-wheeled buggy may be the better choice for you.

There's also an excellent pouch on the back unit, and two smaller mesh pockets underneath the hood where you can keep your keys and phone.
