How to Replace an audi a1 key G28 Engine Speed Sensor
In this video Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located at the edge of transmission over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft in order to activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails the ECU will show the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync and possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
Testing is a bit challenging since there are two connector pins and they perform different functions but the most effective method of testing it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is fully functional, it should read around 1000 ohms. Check for evidence of coolant or replacement audi Key fob oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this component.
2. Injectors
Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced massive power loss like the engine is out of gas or the injectors aren't firing at all. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, audi key programmer 3 were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. When i crank the engine with no sparks i put tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stays shut. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found 0ohm. So i assume the problem is in another place.
I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car is able to start when the G28 is not plugged in and runs fine when it is plugged in however it has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is zero.
I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've all other possibilities out. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate a spare in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines have an ECU that has to know the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions about fuel injector timing etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these goes bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which could cause engine shut down.
Some of the signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or a misfire when you are in gear. It is likely that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. The good news is they are very affordable and easy to find, especially if you're looking at a Bosch model, which is what we have. Alternately, the GM version of this part is also a good option.
5. Tachometer
A damaged engine sensor could cause a myriad of issues in your car. It is an important part of the transmission in your audi car key cover, as it transmits information to the ECU about how fast or slow the engine of the car is spinning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.
The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It sends an electrical signal through a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then uses and processes the signal to control fuel, timig and boost and then sends it on to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should detect an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these two points. This is a common component across the replacement audi key fob 80, 100, 200, UrS and audi replacement key cost uk Replacement Key Service (Https://Bfme.Net/Home.Php?Mod=Space&Uid=2987783) RS2 range from 1985 MC until the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best ones might be availble in wrecking yards.
