The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose office or home has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also extremely quiet and works while you are at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best automatic vacuum cleaner robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky models from the competition. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has 100% in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing with a little more noise and a little more cost it's a capable two-in-one that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best automatic vacuum cleaner robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, as well as washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
