Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?

It's easy to move around in a lightweight double pushchair, especially if you have kids of different age groups. They are easy to fold, steer and carry up and down the stairs.

This City Mini GT2 offers side-by-side seats with plenty of legroom and reclining that can be adjusted. It also has massive UPF 50+ canopy with peekaboo windows. It also has an expanding frame width to accommodate a second car seat or a second passenger.

Side-by-Side

The majority of the lightweight double pushchairs that we tested are side-by-side models and are best double pushchairs with swivel wheels suited for children who can sit up unassisted since these models tend to lack car seat integration. That said there are some exceptions. Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double are both excellent options that offer recline that can be adjusted in both seats, a huge canopy, and padded five-point harnesses. They're also easy to move despite their larger footprints and are perfect for parents who are worried about fitting through doorways.

The Cybex Duet is a little different due to its unique frame that expands widthways to add another seat, making it slimmer than other pushchairs with side-by-side seating available. It can be pushed through doors that are standard and is easy to maneuver on public transport. It can also be used as a jogger which is great if you plan to use it in conjunction with an infant car seat or carrier.

The UPPAbaby Vista v2 double is another great side-by-side, lightweight double seat stroller. It allows for additional flexibility due to the modular frame. It has a smart design that allows you to convert it into a single buggy or a double by adding 2 carrycots or car seats (it can even take twins). It's a great option for growing families. The UPPAbaby umbrella stroller is also one of the lightest, sexiest and most stylish available.

Try the egg2 that folds down to the size and weight of a compact suitcase. It can be used either as a double or single by adding two carrycots or baby car seats. Our home testers were impressed with the ease of move, even with a full load of kids.

Although they're light double pushchairs that sit side-by-side aren't foolproof. If your children are of the same age and stage, they may still argue over who gets to sit in which spot. If they're taller than each other it could be that a tandem design might be better for them as it allows them to face each other.

Tandem

While side-byside models are more for children of similar age, tandem lightweight double strollers have their own charms. They can be fitted with a larger car seat, and some have seats that can be reversible or a carrycot in the middle. They are more spacious and easy to get into and out of. However, their baskets tend to be smaller than those on buggies that are single. Many have larger canopies with windows that peek out and padding for the leg cushions.

The iCandy Peach is another example of a lightweight and affordable tandem. Its fabrics feel a little less premium than some of our other top-rated doubles, but it looks and feels great and is easy to use. Its one-handed folding is awe-inspiring. While it requires some practice, Kirstie from our Lab described it as "genius". It can't be folded without the carrycot attached, however, the mechanism for attaching and taking it off it is simple and fast.

Tandem strollers that are lightweight generally have a more precise turning compared to side-by-side models. However, they can be harder to drive on uneven surfaces and curbs. They may also be slow to speed up and are heavier to move, which could put strain on your back.

A convertible double buggy is a different alternative. It is initially an individual but you can also add adapters to make it double. It can also have the option of a second seat, a carrycot, or both in the front. Children can share a seat. Some also have the option of incorporating buggy boards, which can help an older child keep up with younger siblings.

This versatile tandem is a top choice from our home testers due to its easy-to-maneuver size and impressively large shopping basket, which can be accessed with both seats in the parent-facing position. Its extremely lightweight weight (about the same as a few single pushchairs) makes it a breeze to maneuver. Its reversible seats mean that you can flip them to face either direction, and the clever method by which it connects an additional seat or riding board to the rear is appreciated by many. Parents also admired that it accommodates car seats and infant carriers from a variety of brands. This includes a few that aren't normally compatible with other double buggies.
