There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also extremely quiet and operates while you are at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in minutes.

With a sleek circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models This robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.

For larger houses it's recommended to choose models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or voice commands. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would think from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance.
