The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and will leave your floors spotless. Its surprisingly affordable price and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Make sure to check your robot's brushes regularly for tangled debris and hair. Wash them if needed. Some models also self-empty their dust bin on board into a larger one at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They are equipped with motors that are top of the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other top iRobot models (including the top choice) they utilize smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it spots an abundance of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned up quickly.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the task of cleaning a whole home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of rooms and floors with various flooring types including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum cleaner reviews vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the rivals. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuum cleaner reviews we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite loud, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, as well as washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the degree of dirt they are.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Finally a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd imagine from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots that vacuum and mop we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to set up an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also set up a spot clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we have test. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
