The Best Robot Hoover

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept in removing dog hair. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our top option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and operates while you are at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant automatic vacuum cleaner cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the rivals. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuum that mops we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing with a little more noise and some extra cost this is a efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and washes and dries the mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum cleaner makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that is less intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
