It is recommended to do this while the lock is in place however, if this is not possible, you can take it off to measure. It is crucial to ensure that there is no cylinder that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This can make it susceptible to lock snapping attacks.

The design of many modern cylinders comes with anti-drilling as well as bump resistance features. These features are designed to minimize the risk of attack by forcing the cylinder rotate in the opposite direction. This will help deflect the attack, and ensure your door is secure.

Certain cylinders are made to withstand snapping.
