Top Rated Robot Vacuums

However, unlike the i7+ and other top rated robots we test the i3+ does not have obstacle-avoidance capabilities, so it may be stuck on things like socks or power cords, and it can have difficulty in navigating through transitions between surfaces, such as from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot suggests that you clear areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, and include getting rid of any toys or clutter it may encounter. You should also keep the dustbin and filters clean to prevent them from becoming clogged. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station, and it automatically emptys the dirt into the docking station’s external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning from where it started. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for approximately an hour and a half of continuous use, and it takes about three hours to recharge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model of the flagship line from iRobot, and it comes with all the latest features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and the most important feature of all -- it comes with an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba i7+ can keep up to 10 floor plans and their names using Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that allows it to create maps of rooms so that it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your robot through the app or via voice.

The i7+ is more efficient and more maneuverable in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from all surfaces, including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy, though the dust bin is self-emptying which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and cuts down on recurring costs.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning session and to move around the room, and even vacuum an area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. After being connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world full of vacuums that are cordless and are like minivans and buses, this tiny Dyson model feels like an old-fashioned sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in most homes, but it is also compact enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that lasts for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system traps allergens and releases clean air back into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets and collect large crumbs or fine dust. It has three suction modes to match the task being performed. It quickly switches from handheld to floor vacuum, and then back to floor.

This model comes with an attached dock that charges the Dyson to 100 percent within 3.5 hours. It also gives the ability to connect two attachments and the handheld. This is a huge improvement over the older Dysons, that require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The V10's biggest drawback is its short run time. As CR's tests show, its claims to run up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is a typical and not a remarkable time to run a battery-powered cordless vac. It's enough time to vacuum a typical-sized home but not enough to reach every area. (A second time usually works). This doesn't mean that this model doesn't have its benefits: It's lighter and maneuverable than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming performance is noticeably superior on carpets with a low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums, the 694 is an affordable model that's an excellent option for those who don't wish to spend too much on a robot. It was able to pick up all kinds of debris in our testing and often went over the same area several times to ensure an efficient clean. The flat front of the unit allows to get into corners and along the walls' edges, which is a nice feature.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home. However, it lacks the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, including our top picks, i3+EVO and the j7+ Series. This means that it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and furniture that isn't as sturdy, and often will run out of battery before making it back to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694, as it has fewer components that require regular cleaning, is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower costs for recurring expenses, has more advanced automation abilities and is able to better maneuver its own. It also has a bigger dustbin and charges faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries and can be controlled using the voice assistant on your smartphone. It also feels better-built, has a more powerful motor, and performs notably better on floors that are bare and carpets with a low pile, as well as providing a wider array of automation options.
