WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boost in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. A random additional substat is also added to each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using a button, which displays an item upgrader kit's preview at its next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each upgrade items cost 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a benefit as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is true even if those items are from another set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is reduced as well, but is only available once certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have a variety of options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrade level upgrades. Crests are a crucial part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used on equipment of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and pathways.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade item process. For example, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. For instance, it's best to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to create. This is particularly applicable to items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
