How to Replace an audi car key replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

chrome_trhg3QMQrz.pngCharles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located at the edge of transmission just above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails the ECU will throw the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and could indicate chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper chain of timing. The code will not appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit tricky as there are two different pins for the connector and they have different functions however the best method to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when it is in full operation. If you're experiencing issues with this component, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at a high speed I noticed a significant drop in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were drenched in gasoline and the 4th was dry. When I crank the engine with no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stay shut. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged and is running fine when it is plugged in, but still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when unplugged, still shows a temperature of -49c. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've eliminated everything else. But i am afraid I may have missed something. Please let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is the same as the G4 and both function in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store. Test them out to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make decisions about timing of the fuel injectors, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these sensors go bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner that can cause the engine to shut down.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox or a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, and/or a misfire in gear. If you have any of these issues, it is likely your sensor is going bad and requires replacement audi a4 key. The good thing is that they are quite affordable and easily accessible particularly when you're looking at the Bosch model, which is what we have. Alternatively, GM's version of this component is a good option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for many issues in your vehicle. It is a crucial part of the audi keys replacement cost's transmission because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is turning. If this sensor fails, it could affect the performance of the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It transmits an electrical signal through gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then uses and processes this signal to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost as well as sends it on to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should see around 1000 ohms of resistance between those points. This is a typical part across the audi Key replacement Cost uk 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU. Good ones could be available in wrecking yards.Subaru-logo.png
