The Lightest, Most Compact and Easiest to Fold Travel Strollers

This stroller is among the lightest and compact. It's also the easiest folding strollers. Despite its size, it offers an excellent ride, a great sun canopy and multi-position recline.

At less than $100, this stroller is an excellent value. It features an easy compact fold, as well as a carry strap, which makes it easy to sling over your shoulder or take to public transportation.

1. Lightweight

The most important thing to consider when choosing a travel stroller is to be lightweight and easy to fold. The Cybex Orfeo (320) is another great option. It features the ability to fold in concertina that can be operated using just one hand, and is extremely light. Its five-point harness, padded and crotch strap keep your child safe, while the reversible seat and a large undercarriage basket will ensure that there is enough space for all their items. It's also compatible with the brand's infant car seat. This makes it an ideal choice for families that have children from birth.

Lastly, the Coya TRVL ($320) is a different one-handed, one-step fold that comes with car seat compatibility and a wide canopy. It's more expensive than the other models in this category however, it comes with additional features like a large cupholder, a parent pocket, a movable handlebar to fit parents of all heights, and a comfortable carrying strap. Its simplicity is sacrificed for some of its durability in comparison to the other models in this category, however.

2. Folding is easy

A stroller for travel should be easy to open and shut when you're on the move. You don't want a stroller that is difficult to close when you're carrying food items or children in your arms. Even with only one hand, most efficient travel strollers can fold up easily and compactly. Many come with a padded strap that can be comfortably placed over your shoulder.

In our tests, the Libelle stroller scored well for its effortless fold and compact size. It also has a few excellent features: It glides effortlessly over all surfaces and has a generous canopy that provides ample coverage. It's also lightweight and stands by itself when folded. This makes it easier to put away.

We recommend that parents who want their stroller to fit into the overhead bins of planes and are looking for models that are guaranteed to fit. The Munchkin Sparrow is a good example. It fits into the smallest of foldings and comes with an enclosed travel cover. However, it does not have a reclined seat and the cargo area is too narrow to hold anything other than an infant diaper bag or a tote.

The Babyzen Yoyo 2 is another alternative. It folds concertina-style fashion, but it also offers a reversible seat to ride face-to-face or back-to-back. The handle is hidden behind the seat, however our editor didn't like the way it folded.

The tri-fold is the most recent stroller that travels. It folds down into three pieces and provides the perfect combination of compactness and features. The UPPAbaby Miniu for instance, has a reversible chair and a storage compartment that is unstructured on the rear, and a lockable latch to keep it folded. It's a little bigger than the umbrella models from the brand however it folds more compactly than its G-Luxe and G-Link counterparts. It also comes with a padded carry strap that can be worn over your shoulder.

3. Easy to store

The best travel stroller strollers fold down into a small, easy-to-store size that you can easily fit in the trunk of your car or squeeze into the overhead bin of a plane. Some even come with a carry strap that makes it simple to carry over your shoulder and you don't have to worry about your hands becoming tired. They also tend to be lighter than standard strollers, which can make them easy to lift and carry when it's time for a stroll around the neighborhood or the airport.

When we tested this stroller, it performed exceptionally well in our durability tests and was able to maneuver across all kinds of surfaces including smooth hardwoods to shag carpeting. In general, we suggest calling your airline ahead of time to check their specific guidelines for bringing strollers on board and strollers, as they may vary. This is particularly important if you wish to check your stroller's gate-ability and allow you to travel around the airport without it and be able to use it once you're on the plane (though this isn't a viable option for families that require car seats or a toddler booster).

If you're looking to purchase a straightforward travel stroller that's lightweight and folds down to an extremely compact size The Contours Itsy is a great choice. The Contours Itsy comes almost fully assembled, and all you have to do is attach the bumper bar. It comes with cups holder for the parent and an additional back pocket. However it doesn't come with an extra-large basket. This may make it difficult to pack the essentials for a long trip.

If you're a frequent traveler we recommend that you consider a stroller that is more robust, with more features and the ability to hold more cargo. The UPPAbaby Minu, for instance, comes with many of the same features like its G-Luxe or G-Link counterparts but is smaller and folds faster. It's also slightly more robust than an umbrella stroller, and has a padded strap to alleviate some of the burden off your shoulders.

4. Confortable

Strollers are typically used for extended periods of time when traveling, so comfort is important. Seats that have plenty of padding as well as a reclining system that can be adjusted to various angles are ideal. Be aware of whether the canopy extends to provide sun protection and if the mesh windows promote airflow. If you need to carry items with you take a look at a model that has cups and organizers for parents as well as an ample storage basket underneath the seat. If you're in the market for a stroller for older children, make sure to check the age range and assess whether your child will be comfortable in the seat without an infant car seat.

The way a stroller is rolled is also crucial. It should be able to move easily across different surfaces that include smooth carpets, hardwoods and shag carpets cobblestones, and gravel.
