How to Replace an audi key fob replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor

happy-african-american-businessman-holding-car-key-2022-12-16-16-36-17-utc-min-scaled.jpgIn this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace audi key the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky since there are two pins for the connector and they have different functions but the best method of testing it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when it is at full operation. Examine for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a significant decrease in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs. Three were drenched with gazoline the fourth one was dry. When I start the engine, there are no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th one stays shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I get 0ohm. I think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do, as i believe that i've completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate a spare in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is easy to test them: simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines must be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about fuel injector timing, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you have a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will show the codes that could trigger an engine shut down.

Some of the symptoms of a failed G28 sensor are an inaccurate gearbox rev counter and gears that shift faster than normal and/or misfiring when in gear. It is probable that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. They're cheap and easy to find especially in the case of a Bosch sensor like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this part is an option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for a slew of issues with your vehicle. It's an essential component of the transmission in your audi connect key since it sends information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the engine of the car is turning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It transmits an electrical signal through a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU is then able to process this signal to control the flow of fuel, Programming audi key timig and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, audi tt key fob not working you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should detect the resistance to be around 1000 ohms in these areas. This part is common across the Audi smart Key Replacement 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 Du You may also find good ones in wrecking yards.
