World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and increase other stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a certain amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its basic stats improve in value. This value is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive dependent on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to perform. This is due to the variety of perks that have to be modified to upgrade an item.

The level of an item is a popular measurement of power and can be seen on all item tooltips. It is also used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear as PvP is restricted at a lower level. The average level of an item can be found on the character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell gear, players can compare the level of an item. It's a good indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it is capable of dealing with. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor can be done using the item's level.

The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including the ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are a variety of theories on the method by which the level of an item is determined. One theory is that the level is a number derived from a formula that determines how much an item level upgrade's stats are worth. It takes into consideration the fact that various perks have different value and sockets have gems that increase the overall value of the item. This could result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is often very close to Blizzard's real item level.

However, this is not the only factor which can affect an item's ilvl as the size of the area the item dropped in can alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding an additional level to its crit rating or haste rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher value.

Item Stats

The stats of an item are a major part of what makes or breaks an item upgrade for players. The game uses them in a variety of ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to one weapon, and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats of a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modifications that are in turn increased by the player's skill.

Upgrades to an item may increase its stats. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. An item that is white or grey for instance, can only be upgraded one time, while an item that has rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.

Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all sizes and shapes. The affixes can be used to give the item extra damage, or give a specific ability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down cooldowns) or make the item unique by giving a special name to the item.

All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and items. These can be used as upgrade gauges as with other methods of rerolling.

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which stats to be kept on an item when it is upgraded. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However, all items will include at least one stat within that range unless they are a unique item, or the item is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another aspect that can be modified by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or choosing which stats to enhance. But, like base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item basis and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops and the strength of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is more advantageous in the early game, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading which increases with each level and can be further increased by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, shields, and armor can spawn or be crafted using the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the luck of an item upgrade up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be outfitted to increase the damage of any skill that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items can be found in the shops or made by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade or to stop players from losing their items if it is not successful.

The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading that item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%..

The luck of an item can influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have an initial success rate of 25% and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be obscured by them.
