How to Replace an audi replacement key service near me G28 Engine Speed Sensor
In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft in order to activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).
It's a bit tricky to test as there are several pins on the connector, and each has its own functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms when the sensor is operating at its maximum. If you are having problems with this component, look for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, I experienced massive power loss as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors are not firing at all. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs. Three were drenched with gazoline the 4th one was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when i turn the engine on without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays closed. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I got zero Ohm. I think the issue is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car can start when the G28 is not plugged in and runs fine when it is plugged in but it still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.
I'm not certain what to do, as i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. However, i'm afraid that I might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please chime in! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, audi replacement key cost Replacement keys (google.co.cr) and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. It is simple to test them - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of fuel injectors, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you are experiencing issues with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will display the codes that could trigger an engine shut down.
A failing G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox or a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, or a misfire while in gear. If you have any of these issues, it is likely your sensor is deteriorating and should be replaced. The good news is that they are very affordable and easy to find, especially in the case of the Bosch model, like ours. Alternatively, GM's version of this component is an excellent choice.
5. Tachometer
A faulty engine speed sensor could be the cause of numerous issues with your car. It is a crucial part of your new audi key's transmission, as it sends information to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is spinning. When this sensor fails, it will cause problems for the transmission as well as the rest of the car's components.
The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate the flow of fuel and boost as well as timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. It should show around 1000 ohms of resistance between those two pins. This is a common part that is found across the audi A3 Spare key 80, 100 200, UrS and replacement audi Key RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good ones might be availble in wrecking yards.
