Buying a Pram Newborn

Prams and pushchairs are multi-functional, flexible companions of caregivers and parents. They're the co-pilots in the journey of your child.

A pram newborn is a must for newborns and babies and has a deep, sturdy carrycot with soft and secure walls.

A pram comes with a bassinet. However, it can be converted to a stroller when the baby is ready.

Safety

Newborns need to be secured as much as is possible. A pram or stroller equipped with safety features will keep your baby safe and comfortable during travel. The essential requirements for any pram or stroller include a functioning brake, a five-point safety harness (2 shoulder straps, 2 waist straps, and a crotch strap) and the wrist tether strap that is for the person who is pushing the pram. Make sure the pram you select is in compliance with these requirements.

Find a stroller that allows your newborn to be seated in the suggested lie-flat position. This position supports your baby and helps prevent the development of a risky curve in their spine that can lead to spinal problems. It also lowers the risk of SUID (Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Syndrome) or asphyxiation, by keeping the airways open. Most prams that are used from birth will have the seat unit, which will recline to a lay-flat pram mode for younger babies and then transform into a pushchair unit for older children.

It's also worth considering whether you'd prefer a parent facing pram or not. It's ideal to keep an eye on your child, and also helps them feel reassured by the familiar sight of their parents.

Make sure that your pram newborn has a sturdy base with wheels that can withstand bumps and potholes and that you are able to fold it up easily, and check that the safety harness is functional and fits comfortably (five-point instead of three-point) and is able to be adjusted as your child grows. You will also be able to keep changing and shopping bags in the basket underneath (although remember that putting on excessive weight can cause it to tip over).
