World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading

The upgrade option lets players increase an item's gear rating up to 700 points and add a final bonus. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you take them to the Kiln.

Certain items are worth upgrading due to their distinctive stats. (For example an excellently rolled breakpoint armor used in melee PvP). Other items such as weapons don't change much after an upgrade and aren't worth the cost.

Weapons

Weapons can be upgraded to improve their numeric stats like damage to attack, crit chance PvE and PvP damage. Weapons also come with an unchanging bonus that increases their damage per second. Many weapons also have a fixed bonus that is activated when three or more identical weapons are placed in a group. In some instances, this bonus can add up to more than the amount of damage a weapon upgrades by itself.

The cost of upgrading a weapon is contingent on its rarity and current level. For example, an +2 weapon will require two regular Smithing Stones while a+3 requires four. The number of stones needed to upgrade the gun will increase until it needs a higher level of Smithing Stones. At that point, it will reset back to one.

Upgrades to weapons also reroll the stats of the base. This is generally a positive aspect, but it may also have negative consequences. Upgrades can render items unusable, unless you are very lucky.

It is possible to upgrade armor items to increase their stats. For example, if you upgrade a helm or chest, this will increase its defense base while a belt and gloves will increase their strength and dexterity. Armor also has a reroll option for its Enhanced Defense percentage, which means that it can sometimes reroll to a lower value.

The upgrade template for a weapon shows the new stats it will get when upgraded, along with their respective values. This means that an upgrade from an 8 attack-damage sword to an 11-attack-damage sword will result in the weapon gaining 3% of attack damage. However, the 3% doesn't mean that it will hit for 3 fewer times as it is an absolute number.

Rerolling a weapon is possible by pressing the green button on the item menu, using the circling arrows. This will roll the item and alter its stats but it won't reset the weapon's level nor tie it to the account status.

Armor

Making a few improvements to your armor can make huge differences in your capacity to withstand. Certain sets provide massive boosts to poison or curse, fire or magic resistance, making traversing tough areas a breeze. To improve your armor, head to one of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. Note that armor can't be upgraded the same way as weapons, so you'll need to focus on enhancing it to increase physical power if you're a Warrior or Spell Power in the case of a Mage. It's also a good idea to save your armor upgrades for the armor you'll still be wearing at the end of the game, like the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield, or the helmet you use for the final boss battle, the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.

You can also gain advantages to your armor by presenting the jeweler at Gerudo Town 10 Twinkling Titanite.
