WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the item upgrades level by +3. A random extra substat is also increased with every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for those with higher variance due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item upgrade level, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, Item level upgrade purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from item level upgrade upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. button, which will display an image of the item when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item Level upgrade and the current item level. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations offer item upgraders which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via several methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This applies even if those items come from a different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade is reduced and the discount is available across all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have a variety of choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item upgrading in the proper steps and paths.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the best equipment available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to make. This is especially true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
