Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

The process of upgrading an item, often known as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment provides a linear increase in any stat.

Players can recycle six items at one time to get a gauge of each item's upgraded component. The cost of recycling items increases with their rarity and item level.

Upgrade components

In Guild Wars 2, an item upgrade is a way to increase the stats on your weapons and armor. This can be accomplished by a variety of methods through the use of upgrade components or increasing an item's rarity or mark level. A lot of items can be reforged to boost their value.
