Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

The statistics of an item are enhanced by upgrading it, which is also known as "upping". Each upgrade increment results in an increase in linearity of a given stat.

Players can recycle up to six items at once to gain a level gauge for each of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling items scales according to their rarity and level.

Upgrade components

Almost all weapons can be upgraded using a prefix upgrade for example, an insignia or rune, and many can be upgraded with suffix upgrades. These upgrades can be used to add an adjective to the name of the item like "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".

Glyphs

Glyphs are a way to convey information via visuals. They are animated to grab the attention of the viewer and stimulate curiosity in the brain. The animation of glyphs resembles body language, making them even more effective in conveying messages across language barriers. Glyphs also create a sense of familiarity in the brain, increasing retention of the message.

Each glyph comes with a range of values it can enhance a stat according to the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use them to enchant an Artifact. This range is the maximum value that the glyph can increase a stat's value by and not the amount it actually increases it by. The value of the glyph depends on the tier as well as the quality of the product you are enchanting.

Most upgrade components inserted into items can't be replaced or salvaged without removing the gear in question, except for legendary equipment and upgrades. If you do have an unusable rune or glyph that hasn't yet been added to your equipment, you can transfer it to another piece of gear by using the upgrade Glyphs context menu on the Glyphs panel. This will create an entirely new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.

If you are looking to remove a glyph from an item then you'll need to salvage it with a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. The item will be destroyed in which it is installed but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item using the glyph and its shards therefore it should not be considered a loss.

A glyph added to an item could cause it to become unstable and the shards that are left of that glyph will disappear from your inventory once you take it down. You can also add an inscription on your equipment to provide an extra benefit. For instance, the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and distribute it slowly instead of all at once. Reroll tokens

Reroll tokens are used to alter the affixes on weapons and equipment. Reroll tokens give players a new random affix, which is typically superior to the original. Reroll tokens can also be used to upgrade weapon stats for more damage or bonuses.

Rerolled items do not appear on the menu for item upgrades [their explanation], but they can be upgraded. By pressing the "upgrade button" you can recycle these items that have been rerolled. This will alter the layout of the item's window and let up to six items be chosen for recycling. The gauge of level is increased by recycling an item.
