Fortunately in 2022 the new owner of Miami Seaquarium pledged to work with an organization of Lolita advocates known as Friends of Toki and the Lummi tribe, who consider her to be a family member and plan that would eventually take her to the open water. The plan included a sanctuary pen in Washington's westcoast, where she could live for the remaining days and receive human care and be monitored by scientists. The sanctuary pen was planned to be hundreds of time larger than her Miami house and surrounded by ocean, not concrete tanks.
