In the case of items that only see use in a particular build (Whistant's shield for FB sorcs, for instance) upgrading them could render them unusable unless you have an extremely fortunate roll.

It is possible to upgrade armor items to boost their effectiveness. For instance, if you have chests or helms this will increase its defense base while a belt and gloves will enhance their required strength and dexterity. Armor has a rerolling feature for its Enhanced Defense percent. This means that it can sometimes reroll down to a lower value.

For instance, the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, which allows you to keep up with a large group of enemies in most cold environments and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded all the way to +20 defense, giving you enough protection to survive an entire raid with a few of your friends.

You can't upgrade your armor in the same way as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior it is Best item upgrader to focus on upgrading your armor for physical power or spell power. It's also worth saving your armor upgrades for armor you'll wear at the end of the game, such as the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield, or the helmet you wear for the final boss fight and the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.

Upgrade vendors can be found at the capitals of every zone, and sometimes in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are offered using tokens, gold or fragments of a rare trinket.

The upgrade of a trinket can be a cost-effective alternative to purchasing a new one. You can upgrade a trinket with as little 12 tokens. The new trinket will have the same base ilvl as the old one, and will have an additional 1% upgrade bonus.

Trinkets can be upgraded when the old ones are not needed which allows a player to increase their power and value over time. They can also be traded between players and are a popular alternative to gold.

Players must upgrade their most valuable items first. This usually refers to the most valuable-in-slot items for their class, then their secondaries, and finally other pieces of gear that they won't replace soon (for instance rings or cloaks).
