Path of Exile Item Upgrading

In Path of Exile, item upgrading is one of the most effective ways to upgrade your equipment without relying on big-ticket drops or trade. This article will show you how to upgrade your gear effectively.

Upgrades to equipment provide a bonus on the item's stats. This bonus is based on the upgrade component's level and Upgrade Item rarity.

Components

Upgrade components are the parts that can make your weapons and armor better. They can be found by destroying enemies, purchasing them from karma vendors, or finding them in Best item upgrader-spheres. You can also get them from equipment containing the components or by using high-tier salvage kits such as Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components cannot be destroyed when they are removed from the item.

Upgrade components are primarily used to improve an item however, they can also be used for other reasons. Each component has a unique experience multiplier. This determines the amount of experience an item gains when upgraded using the component. For instance, organic components offer a higher experience multiplier than mechanical ones.
