Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and essential way to boost the performance of a variety of items in Path of Exile. They can be a great source of extra damage and more AD or even more attachments.

Rare-grade equipment is often superior to upgraded Common or Item Upgrade Magic equipment because of their high requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both armor and weapon items. They increase the performance of the item upgrade (description here) they are attached to. Armor upgrades are available in the world of the game and are available from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged by using an expert or higher salvage kits to retrieve upgrades from the items.

The amount of damage a piece of armor or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the degree of upgrades. Upgrading a piece of armor to the highest upgrade level will increase the damage it absorbs. It is important to keep in mind that this will increase the weight of the armor, therefore it should be heavier.

There are a few different types of armor upgrades available in the game, and they all have distinct effects. For instance, certain upgrades give the armor a certain amount of additional health points, while others will make it lighter and stronger. The type of armor upgrade that an item can get will be identified by the name of the upgrade as indicated in the table below.

A few upgrades are magic or a hybrid of magic and technology, which is identified by the "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Certain upgrades also require fees in order to be used. These are indicated as "Charges" entries in the table. The charges associated with these upgrades change daily or never expire according to the upgrade.

Iron Ore is the cheapest way to improve your armor. You can find it by exploring and looting small chests. Titanium is more expensive but it can be obtained from the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to higher level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide a significant boost to performance and are worth the investment, particularly for one-handed weapons.

The player must be aware, however, that upgrading a piece to the max upgrade level will increase its defense values. However, it can also decrease its agility and its speed. For this reason, it is not recommended to upgrade the majority of armor pieces above +9, since the defensive boost gained is generally not worth the extra weight and power cost of the improvements required.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to increase the effectiveness of specific aspects of a weapon. For example, an upgrade may increase the damage dealt by the shells of a shotgun or the accuracy of the rifle sniper. Certain firearms have enhancements to enhance their intrinsic characteristics. Jewels

The quality of a gem can be improved at the Jeweler in stages that range from Crude to Royal. The boosts to stats will differ depending on the level the jewel is at when it is inserted into weapons, jewelry, or gear.

The Jeweler can craft all kinds of gems, apart from the rare and legendary ones, which you must be at an appropriate level to obtain. Unlike other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped with another jewel of the same kind without destroying it. However, you can only replace one jewel in an equipment piece once.

Utilizing more jewels in a movement can make it feel more comfortable and is usually done to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. Jewels also enhance performance and make a harder surface than steel, so that the repeated friction caused by pivots does not damage them.

In addition to the upgrades mentioned above players can also get glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs offer a small boost and can be freely swapped, but they are not guaranteed to appear as loot. Glyphs, just like jewelry, can be upgraded by the Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Crystals and gold. Glyphs are also removed, which returns them to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like traits and aegis, are not swappable, and can only be recovered using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets can be used to provide your hero with many small, but beneficial, benefits. They can be obtained in the starter areas as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, and by doing road interactions. They can also be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinkets that a player unlocks will be the cloak, which grants an unimportant but beneficial boost to speed of movement and the ability to escape. The player will then be able to acquire necklaces, amulets, and rings, in a similar way similar to how they obtained weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has one upgrade slot that can accept either a universal upgrade or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades provide smaller bonuses and can be used in any type of equipment, while jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and only works with specific types of trinkets.

These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't engaged in combat. This allows the hero to become more efficient even when not in combat. It can also make up for item upgrade the absence of strong slot in the talent tree or team which are usually filled by the hero's optimal stats.

A good rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best item upgrade-in-Slot) items that you aren't planning to replace soon, followed by items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item upgrader kit being upgraded. This is particularly true if an item has multiple stats you wish to upgrade, since it's generally better to upgrade a single important stat than two sub-optimal ones.

Jungle players often upgrade their yellow trinket to a red one prior to the start of the game. Mid and top players however, will choose either a pink or green ward, depending on the matchup. These choices will have an impact on a hero's ability to control the map.

Aside from the items listed above, players can also discover a variety of other trinkets throughout the game in the form of awards and trophies. These can be earned by completing certain milestones in the story, such as completing a chapter's main quest or killing a particular boss.
