Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and essential way to boost the performance of a variety of items in Path of Exile. They can also provide additional damage, AD or even affixes.

In most cases, however, upgraded Common and Magic gear is often surpassed by Rare-grade gear because of their requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a type of upgrade that can be used on weapons and armor items. They increase the stats of whatever item they are attached to. Upgrades to armor are available in the game's world and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Alternatively, they can also be salvaged from items with upgrade components within them by using an expert or greater salvage kit.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it will take on. A piece of armor upgraded to its highest upgrade level will boost its ability to absorb damage. It is important to keep in mind that this will increase the weight of the armor, so it must be heavier.

There are a few different types of armor upgrades available in the game, and they all have distinct effects. Certain upgrades grant armor a greater number of health points while others make it lighter and more powerful. The type of armor upgrade that an Item upgrade can receive will be indicated by the name of the upgrade, as indicated in the table below.

Some of the upgrades are also magical or a combination of technology and magic, which is indicated by a "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Additionally, some upgrades require a fee to use, which are indicated by an "Charges" entry in the table below. The charges for these upgrades change every day or never expire, dependent on the upgrade.

Iron Ore is the cheapest way to improve your armor. You can locate it by exploring and looting small chests. Titanium is more expensive, however, it is available from smelters located in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied on high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can give a significant improvements in stats and are worth the cost.

A piece of armor upgraded to max upgrade level will dramatically increase its defense capabilities but the wearer must be aware that increasing its weight will drastically reduce its agility and speed. Therefore, it is not recommended to upgrade the majority of armor pieces above +9, because the increase in defense is generally not worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades required.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players the ability to improve certain aspects of their weapon. For instance an upgrade can enhance the damage caused by a shotgun's shells or the accuracy of a rifle that snipes. Some weapons have special enhancements to enhance their intrinsic capabilities. They include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and minimizes overheating of the weapon) and Kinetic Coils (increases the velocity of projectiles for Item Upgrades greater damage).

Most upgrades for weapons require one of three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons, and a whetblade for applying. These can be obtained by completing side quests or by killing a certain amount of bosses and monsters.

To upgrade an equipment set, weapon piece, or Whetblade you need to visit the NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee that is a certain amount of Bars. The more bars you need to complete an upgrade, the higher the level. If you have multiple upgrade materials the cost of upgrading will be lower.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the method of upgrading your weapon and equipment sets was a bit different. Prior to Chapter 2 Season 5, you could upgrade your weapon or equipment by paying a specific amount of Bars. You could do this until your weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level, at which point the upgrades would reset.

You can still do this, but the process is high on RNG and low on agency. Instead, you're much better off going to stores and purchasing equipment with low upgrade levels but excellent base scores and stat distributions. They will also have a better chance of bringing you the most prestigious perks and blessings.

The majority of players will prioritize upgrades to the weapons they are most likely to use to make sure they are able to level up quicker. Additionally players, they should also consider upgrading the weapons that are most popular with their squadmates to increase their power and effective. Shepard, for example, should upgrade the M92F so that he can unlock the Beretta M93R. This will increase the effectiveness of the weapon when used by biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are used in the armor's sockets and weapons, enhancing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. Jewelry crafting is a method for making them, where you combine the gemstone with specific reagents in a jewelry table. The higher the quality of the gem, the greater the secondary effect. These reagents can be obtained from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses around the world, or through salvaging Legendary Gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Prisms.

The quality of a diamond can be improved upon by the Jeweler, with stages that vary from Crude to Royal. Based on the level of the jewel it can provide different stat boosts when it is inserted into gear, weapons and jewelry.

All levels of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler, with the exception of the rare and legendary jewels that require you to be at a high enough level to obtain them. In contrast to other upgrade item components, jewels can be swapped out by a different jewel of the same kind without damaging the original one. However it is only possible to replace the jewels in a piece of equipment once.

Using more jewels in a movement can make it feel more comfortable and is usually used for aesthetic reasons. The jewels can also enhance performance and make a surface harder than steel, so that the repeated friction from pivots do not damage them.

A Glyphmaster can offer glyphs to improve the appearance of your shields and weapons. These glyphs provide a small boost and can be freely traded, but they're not guaranteed to appear as loot. Glyphs, like jewelry, can be upgraded at the Jeweler to exchange gold and Scattered Crystals. Glyphs can also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits and aegis cannot be swapped out, and are only recoverable by using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are a great way to provide your hero with a variety of small, but beneficial benefits. They are available in the start-up area as rewards for personal stories or loot. They can also be obtained through vendors and after doing road interaction. They may also be crafted by jewelers, and found or purchased on the Trading Post.

The first trinket a player is able to unlock is the cloak. It grants a small, but valuable boost in speed of movement and evasion. The player can then collect rings, amulets and necklaces, in a similar way similar to how they obtained weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has an upgrade slot that is either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be placed in any type of equipment while jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and is only compatible with certain types of trinkets.

These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active when the hero isn't fighting. This allows the hero to be more efficient when they are not active. It also helps compensate for the absence of strong team or talent tree slots which are usually filled by the hero's Best item upgrade stats.

A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you won't be replacing in the near future, then any items with desirable stats but less important than the iLevel of the item that is being upgraded. This is especially true when an item has multiple stats that you'd like to upgrade, as it's usually better to upgrade a single crucial stat than two subpar ones.

At the beginning of the game, players in the jungle are likely to upgrade their trinket to a red in the middle and top players will usually opt for either a pink or green ward (depending on the game's matchup). These choices will have an impact on the ability of a hero to control the map.

In addition to the items listed above, players can also find other trinkets in the form trophies and rewards throughout the game. They can be earned by completing certain milestones within the story, like the main quest of a chapter or killing a particular boss. You can see them by selecting the achievement in the reward section of the hero's menu.
