Upgrade components

An item upgrade in Guild Wars 2 is a procedure that can improve the effectiveness of your armor and weapons. Most upgrade components slotted into items are not able to be repaired or replaced without dismantling the gear in question, unless it is legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a rune or glyph you do not want to use, but it hasn't been applied to gear yet, you can move the item to a different piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu on the Glyphs Panel. This will create a Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.

You can take out a glyph by using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item on which the glyph is installed will be destroyed, however the upgraded item can be salvaged by removing the glyph fragments.

When you remove an item after adding a glyph the shards that are part of the glyph will vanish. You can also place a glyph on your equipment to give it a bonus. These rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button which alters the appearance of the window and allows up to six items to be chosen to recycle. Recycling an item adds a small amount of points to its level gauge.
