Path of Exile Item Upgrading

The ability to upgrade items allows players to improve their weapons and gear with new affixes, boosting its base stats or providing additional benefits. To upgrade items, the player must have the item in their inventory and have access to the kiln.

Typically items with weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a stronger base, whereas items with strong bases like eth titans do not vary significantly in their stats after being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, trinkets and tools for gathering, offering an added bonus or effect when the equipment is in use. They can be purchased from vendors, or found as loot gathered by enemies or obtained from chests or missions. Certain upgrades come with additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a specific level to upgrade.

To upgrade the quality of a weapon or piece armor, the user must select it, and then click on the Upgrade button located in the toolbar. This will display on the right-hand side of the screen a preview of the expected upgrade stats as well as the components or materials required for the upgrade.
