WoW Item Upgrades

Item upgrades--more commonly known as "upping"--are an enchantment and item that can be incorporated into weapons and armor pieces, increasing their effectiveness. These upgrades can increase the gauge of an item by a specified amount of points. The cost of these upgrades increases according to their rarity.

The melee PvP scene is extremely reliant on the perfect roll of armor due to its ability to reduce damage from weapons.

Type-restricted upgrades

Upgrades are a vital element of the crafting process. Upgrades can increase the effectiveness of an item, increase its strength, or even provide a bonus effect. They can also alter the appearance of an item. While some upgrades are universal, others have special rules for armor or weapons. The wrong upgrade can ruin an otherwise excellent weapon, and could even render it unusable.

As a general rule you can only upgrade an item upgrader mod of equipment to the level of its most advanced counterpart. You are able to upgrade helms only to the highest level. Weapons can be upgraded up to the equivalent of a sword. However, this won't increase the weapon's damage output, but can decrease its trade value.

Jewels can be added to items with matching sockets, just like other upgrade components. For instance Garnet Pebble (gemstone) and an Adorned Garnet Jewel (jewel) both add strength, however the Garnet Pebble is only able to increase regular hits, while the Garnet Jewel also boosts the player's strong attacks. Jewels can be put in all armor, weapon and accessory slots. They can also be used with some exotic trinkets or lower rarity trinkets that require slots.

Gems are a DM-specific mechanic that can help make items feel special to their owners. Jewels come with a variety of upgrade paths that let players customize and find the perfect combination for their needs. They can even upgrade their existing equipment with new jewels if the initial set of a particular kind isn't working anymore.

Requirements

The upgrade of items in WoW lets players increase the level of their weapons, equipment and trinkets above their current level using specific Mists Of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor resources. These upgrades improve the stats of the base item and item upgrades some also have special effects (such as Dolphin's Grace, which allows players to experience dolphin-like grace while they swim).
