WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. A random additional substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for the latter due to the need to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item upgrader kit will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader is located in every major city, and can be visited anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the item upgrader kit being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them from item upgraders NPCs for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool using a button, item level upgrade which displays an item's preview at its next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item level upgrade (Recommended Internet page) and the current level of the item. For example, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currency types.

Upgraders for items are available in many places on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade items discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players finish certain achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through several methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a certain item level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This applies even if the items come from another set of equipment.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced too, but it is only available once certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have several options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and easiest upgrade item is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, based on the kind of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader for the item such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it brings some changes to the process of upgrading. When a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest level possible on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one purpose and it's crucial to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning on making. This is especially true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The discount on the account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
