WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boosts in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. A random extra substat is also added to every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for those with higher variance due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item level upgrade will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade item your gear. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current item level of the item being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear from other sources. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor with a button, which displays an item's preview at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to acquire a new upgrade items recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players finish certain achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a benefit and an issue.

In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item upgrading for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is even if those items are from an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available when certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a variety of choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item upgrader kit level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

For example, once an item reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, item Level Upgrade or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests have one usage, so it's important to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to make. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
