WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for the latter because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item used to upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade items your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the item level upgrade being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show a preview of an item's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the item slot, and the current level of the Item Level Upgrade. For instance, weapons will cost more than bracers, item Level upgrade or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Upgraders for items can be found in a variety of locations including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining the latest recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for item level upgrade items available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are available only through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and numerous new features added. Once the player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is true even if the items come from another set of gear.

Crests

Players have a number of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests based on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities, or by taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulties to get lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader for the item, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade items the item in the proper steps and routes.

The use of these currencies isn't too difficult, but the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one use and it's crucial to use them wisely. For instance it's Best item upgrade to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the best equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning on making. This is especially applicable to items like trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
