WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. A random additional substat is also increased with each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item Level upgrade has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item upgrading will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new gear. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with an button, which will display an item's preview at the next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item and the current level of the item upgrading. For example weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a variety of options. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

For example, once an item reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest level possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they only have one use. For instance it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the Best item upgrader equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
