It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good value, especially if your office or home has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxes this mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our evaluations. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuum uk in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some extra cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, Robot Hoover navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app also grants access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
