However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, although it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and look better. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it will cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the automatic vacuum cleaner and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty these areas are.

You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app also grants access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.
