WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for item level upgrade trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for the latter due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of armor or weapons. They can be bought by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level, in the event that there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current Best item upgrade level. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain a new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it does bring some modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once an item upgrade is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, item Level upgrade or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests only have one usage, so it's important to use them properly. It is recommended to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially applicable to items like rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The discount for the entire account will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
