Bedside Crib and Travel Cot

Bedside cribs look similar to the bassinet that is attached to the side of the bed. Some have a side that can be adjusted to allow easy access, while others come with an incline that is perfect for reflux babies.

MFM test subject Georgina found this crib very easy to put together and the instructions were clear, which made it an easy and quick build. It folds into an extremely compact size and comes with a handy travel bag.

Easy to put together

They are small and simple to set up, meaning they can be set next to your bed. They are also lighter, making them more transportable. Georgina, one of our MFM home test participants, praised the Maxi-Cosi Lora for being "super easy to construct, with clear instructions and easy zips." The crib can also be used as a travel cot, and comes with a convenient bag to carry it around on the move. It has multiple mesh windows that allow for ventilation and the adjustable height means it can be adapted to any mattress.

Some cribs with a bedside have a side panel that can be raised, allowing an easy access to your baby without the need to get out of bed. This is a great solution for breastfeeding mums or parents who want to be with their baby throughout the night, but do not want to risk co-sleeping (which is associated to a higher risk of SIDS).

The majority of models have a built-in function that allows you to rock your baby. This can be a very comforting experience for your baby and help them to sleep. It's also extremely easy to assemble - Georgina, who took part in our MFM tests, put it together speedily and didn't have to look up the instructions. It's also a great travel cot. It folds flat and easily fits into bags.

The Next2me Magic, which was shortlisted for the Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket at the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards, is also slightly larger than the average, but is still quite compact and easy to fit onto your bed. Georgina found it straightforward to put together, though she did feel the zips could have been more clearly explained on the instruction sheet.

Easy to clean

If you're considering travel cots or bedside cribs be sure to look for models that have a removable mattress cover which can be washed in the machine. This will keep it clean and free of spills, spills, and leaky diapers. It's an excellent idea to select a model that can be disassembled and dismantled in parts, so that you can access all the corners and crevices to conduct a thorough cleaning and sanitising session.
