The cable needs to be spliced into the wiring harness of your car, like the radio wiring harness.

Once the hacker has gained a connection to your vehicle's OBD port, they will send diagnostics to the system at a high baud rate which can cause CAN to crash and stop systems inside your vehicle from functioning. This can cause the engine to stop, doors to lock and even the brakes to engage.
