Path of Exile Item Upgrading

Item upgrading allows players to enhance their weapons and gear with new affixes, boosting its stats base or adding additional perks. To upgrade an item, the player has to have it in their inventory and have access to the kiln.

Items with weak bases, like rings can be upgraded to a stronger base. Items with strong bases, like Titans from eth, have no change in their stats.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to armors, weapons trinkets, weapons and gathering tools. They can be used as an attribute bonus or extra effect, while the equipment is in use. They can be purchased from vendors, or found in loot from enemies, or gotten from chests and missions. Certain upgrades can also be equipped with special cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be above a certain level before they are upgraded.

To upgrade the quality of a weapon, armor or other item in the game, players must select it and Item upgrading then click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will display on the right-hand side of the screen a preview that shows the expected upgrade stats as well as the components or materials required for the upgrade.

There are three kinds: universal upgrades (which include gems), prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, which are made up of gems, can be placed in any kind of equipment and offer less bonuses than upgrade components that are type-restricted. Infusions, which can only be placed in gear that is ascended and legendary equipment are similar to jewels but provide larger bonuses and are not able to be placed in any other kind of equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They add a suffix at the end of the names of items. For example adding the suffix Glyph will transform the staff wrapping of Minor Vigor into a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.

In the instance of upgrades for gathering tools, if a player replaces one glyph with a different one, the old glyph will be returned to the inventory. If you replace any other upgrade component, it will be destroyed, with the exception for the inscriptions that are able to be swapped.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important changes from earlier versions. Gear is now classified into tracks, and each item can only be upgraded as many times before it is "leveled out." The costs for upgrading increase with each level, however the materials needed do not. If an item upgrade fails to reach its max level the NPC will offer the player the option to transfer it to a different character and then re-infuse it with another set of upgrades. This process can take up to two hours and will cost the same amount of material however it will have lower chances of success.

Engineers may utilize a level to measure the height of the building with a known location, such as a benchmark. This method is known as a "level loop." This involves taking readings using the level, backsighting rod and then turning the level to take the foresighting rod reading. This method helps ensure that buildings are built to a high level of accuracy and safety.

Rerolling

Rerolling is the process of changing an item's upgrade components. It is a vital aspect of the game and can drastically improve an item's strength or damage, as well as other characteristics. You can do this through the menu for items or by pressing the Reroll button every time you upgrade an item. Rerolling items can be costly and should be used sparingly.

Many players choose to reroll their gear and weapons, especially in the beginning of the game. Rerolling can help you gain a stronger character quicker, which enables you to progress in the game and reach higher tiers.

Sets

To determine if a product is worth upgrading, players should click the Upgrade button on the screen for their character. It will show the item's attributes, along with the necessary items required to upgrade it. To upgrade the No-mouth Face, for example, 1.1K Scrap Materials will be required, along with 250 Enchanted Dust and Item upgrading 5 Glowing Shards. Generally speaking the jewelry and weapons have more value for trade when they are fully upgraded than armor. Especially for weapons that have spell/weapon damage glyphs upgrading them to gold is recommended since it will give a substantial improvement in their stats. Armor that has an upgraded appearance will also benefit from this as its defense value will increase as it goes from purple to gold.
