Evolution Korea

For a long time the scientific community in Korea has refrained from engaging with the creationists in fear that it could increase the credibility of the movement. The silence is no longer an option.

What is Evolution?

These changes could over generations result in the development of new species. Natural selection is the predominant theory of evolution. It explains how individuals who have advantages can reproduce faster and longer than those with disadvantageous ones. In time, this disparity in reproduction could lead to the emergence of completely new species.

The word "evolution" is derived from Latin for unrolling or revealing has been used in a variety of different ways as the concept has changed in both science and in other fields. Early evolutionists like Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predetermined to change into a new species. The term"transmutation" was coined by Lamarck's student embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire to describe this notion. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, criticized the idea of evolution, and borrowed the term from Geoffroy’s student.

More recently evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process when living things develop characteristics that enhance their chances of survival or ability to reproduce offspring. STR claims to have the backing of 4,000 families and members. Its goal is to weed out what it believes is the "atheist materialism" that reflects a hopeless worldview for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American creationists in the country. A survey of undergraduates studying biology found that half didn't believe in evolution. The root causes are unclear however, they could be related to religious beliefs or the absence of full-time creation scientists across the country.

The KACR achieved many things through its seminars and lectures in the past. It publishes a bimonthly magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of them was a textbook on natural sciences that had a creationist perspective. This led to an interest among college communities. In 1991 the year 1991, a minister and professor started teaching Creation Science in one university, and it is taught to this day.

On August 7 and 8 in 1993, the same day that the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six foreign lecturers including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin presented to an audience of several thousand. KACR and its members have been delivering lectures on creation science in major seminaries too. KACR plans to create a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
