Both robots are adept in removing dirt and dust particles on floors and carpets and are able to navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home that aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean up efficiently. However unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots that we tested the i3+ does not have a feature for avoiding obstacles, so it may be stuck on things like power cords or socks, and it can have difficulty in navigating through transitions between surfaces like from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot suggests that you clear areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, which includes clearing out any clutter or toys it might encounter. It's also recommended to keep the dustbin and filter clear so they aren't clogged by dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is depleted, it returns to its docking station, automatically emptying its dirt into the station's dust bin and then resumes cleaning the area where it left off. Battery life is about an hour and a half of constant use. It takes about three hours to charge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is an excellent model from iRobot's flagship line and comes with the latest features. It has self-charging and self-navigating. But the most important feature is its auto-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for routine maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that lets it map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and control your robot vacuum cleaner amazon with voice or through the app.

In our tests the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our runner-up and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surfaces types including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy, though, is its self-emptying dustbin that removes a major source of maintenance and lowers the amount of time spent cleaning.

We were also impressed with the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to begin or stop cleaning sessions as well as move around the room, and vacuum a particular area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. We were able, once connected, to speak commands to the i7+ such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is an all-sports car in a sea of cordless vacuums that feel like minivans and buses. It is powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in a majority of homes, but also small enough to fit on a bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. Its sophisticated whole-machine filtration system captures allergens and expels clean air back into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives bristles made of nylon that are stiff into carpet to collect large crumbs and fine dust. It has three suction modes that can be adjusted to the task. It quickly converts from handheld vacuum to floor vacuum, and then back to floor.

This model also has a dock that charges to 100% in around 3.5 hours and provides an easy access to two attachments as well as the Wand clip. This is a major improvement over earlier Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The V10's biggest drawback is its short run time. As CR's tests have shown, its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are a bit misleading. This is an average, not an exceptional, run time for an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. It's still enough time to vacuum the majority of an average-sized house but not long enough to cover every area (though a second run-through usually does the trick). This doesn't mean that this model doesn't have its advantages: It's lighter and mobile than the older cordless Dysons and its vacuuming performance is noticeably better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of the most well-known robot vacuums The 694 is a basic model that's an excellent choice for people who don't want to invest too much on a robot. It's capable of sucking up all kinds of debris in our tests, and frequently goes over the same areas many times to get a really thorough clean. Its flat front design allows it to reach corners and edges of walls.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it lacks the mapping capabilities of more sophisticated models such as our top selections, the i3+ EVO and j7+ series.
