WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boost in specific statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item Level upgrade by +3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or Item level upgrade has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item however, they are always cheaper than buying new gear. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased by players from NPCs of item upgrader mod upgraders for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. Once an item upgrader kit has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

Upgraders for items are available in a variety of locations, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through a variety of means which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. Once the player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This applies regardless of whether the items are from an entirely different set of equipment.

Crests

The use of these currencies isn't that difficult however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. Once a piece of gear has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or item level upgrade Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests only have one use, so it's important to use them properly. It's best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment that you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
