The best robot vacuum can sweep and vacuum your floors with no effort. It will also leave them spotless. Its price is surprisingly low and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and an automatic hoover bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, however it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robot vacuums uk vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' boxes this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an easy mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and look better. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it's more expensive and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the degree of dirt they tend to be.

You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also provides access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
