WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. A random extra substat is also increased with every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, item level upgrade unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for the latter because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and item level upgrade will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. button, which displays an item's preview at its next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and current item level, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. After an item level upgrade item (click hyperlink) has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of getting a new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases with the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by having players complete specific achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are available only through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit as well as a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and several new features added. After a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This applies even if the items come from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced as well, but is only available after certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have several options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be used on gear of a specific rank, and each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and easiest upgrade item costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the type or gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content at the appropriate level. This could be done by engaging in outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-tier gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader for the item, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item upgrade in the proper steps and pathways.

The use of these currencies isn't too difficult, but the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one usage and it's crucial to use them wisely. It is recommended to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment you can locate, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are full of high-quality gear.
