The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in removing dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best automatic vacuum and mop robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a carpeted room to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, best robot hoover finishing with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and best robot hoover an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy models of the competition. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robot automatic vacuum and mop/mop that has a perfect 10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings prior to work or at night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it's going to cost you more and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dries mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on how dirty they tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it's worth choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or organize a spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app also provides access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. And you can create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to get caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that is less intuitive and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
