As time passes the handles on your doors will wear out and need to be changed. It is important to keep the same dimensions as the handles you have previously replaced when replacing them.

Certain cylinders come with extra features that can increase security, such as anti-drill or anti bump properties.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is of the right size for your door, it should be measured correctly. The cylinder needs to be measured from the central screw hole to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn should there be one. If you cannot measure using the lock in a fixed position, you can take it out of it. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon could be vulnerable to attacks such as snapping locks, therefore it is essential to make sure it's not too long.

The design of most newer cylinders includes anti-drilling and bump resistance features. These are designed to reduce the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to rotate in a new direction. This will help to stop the attack and ensure your doors are secure.

There are cylinders that have been designed to withstand snapping. This is an increasingly common kind of attack on cylinders which is where the break line of the lock is attacked by a tool that is specially designed to break the front of the cylinder to allow the door handle repairs to be opened. This is faster and more straightforward than opening the door with multipoint locks and leaves no evidence of a break-in which could hinder the insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette sits in the base of your door handle backplate, providing a spring solution and returning your multipoint lock handles to their normal position after usage. These handles used to have no spring, and would slide when the locking mechanism was removed. This simple feature is among the best ways to correct this, and is an excellent way to stop your upvc doors from getting stuck in an open or closed position, as they aren't always easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes are specifically designed to be used with sprung multipoint locks but they won't work with unsprung multipoint handles and you must have a hole specifically cut in your backplate to allow these to fit (please check the image for Door Handle Repair Plate a technical diagram). These cassettes are a replacement to broken or missing cassettes in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are sold as a single unit. They feature a square cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.
