Evolution Korea

Until recently the scientific community in Korea has avoided engaging with the creationists in fear that doing so might increase the credibility of the movement. But silence is no longer an option.

The STR has been campaigning to get rid of textbooks that explain evolution, including the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestral bird's ancestor. However, this is just one aspect of the evolution of the development paradigm.

What is Evolution?

Evolution is a scientific theory that explains the change in the genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. The theory is based on the fact that living organisms adjust to their environment, 무료에볼루션 which may result in variations in genes or even whole genomes. These changes can over many generations lead to the creation of new species. Natural selection is the most popular theory of evolution. It explains how people who have advantages are more likely to reproduce and survive than those with less advantageous traits. However non-genetic changes like the growth in the muscle mass as a result of diet or exercise cannot be considered examples of evolution since they are not inherited by the next generation.

Creationists have a tendency to use the argument that evolution is controversial in spite of the fact that it has been proven accurate by thousands of scientific tests and that it has stood the test of time. They argue that the theory should not be taught at school. In South Korea, creationists have won a few victories in their efforts to eliminate evolution from textbooks for high school, including the removal of any references to the evolutionary origins of humans as well as the Archaeopteryx, a feathered dinosaur that is thought to be an ancestor of birds.

Why is Evolution Important to Humanity?

Evolution explains the origins and evolution of Earth and all living species. It is one of the fundamentals of biology and helps scientists understand how living things work and grow. The most popular kind of creationist is called the YEC. They believe that God created the universe in exactly the manner described in the Bible. YECs hold that the biblical account of the first six days of creation was true and that the universe as well as life on Earth were created only recently.

OECs aren't as popular, but their beliefs are as fierce like the YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old and they believe that evolution is a myth.

Both types of creationism deny that scientific theories such as natural selection and abiogenesis can explain the origins of life on Earth. They assert that evolution is inconceivable because it would require miracles. The pioneers of modern scientific thought resisted miracles because they feared they would lose their credibility.

Some creationists accept naturalistic evolutionary and special creation, and consider their views to be "theistic evolution." It is sometimes called "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the created species." This theory states that God creates the original species and then allows these to evolve over time. These evolutionary changes will eventually produce new species that are similar to the original.

Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the entire universe in one event called the Great Flood. They believe that the first species were created simultaneously, and that they developed gradually afterward. They deny the notion of abiogenesis and claim that self-replicating living cannot come from non-living matter.

In general, the creationists oppose the teaching of evolution in schools. This position is supported by numerous professional organizations which include the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education and the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. However, certain academic institutions and scientists are more flexible, and 무료에볼루션 allow for the inclusion of both evolution and creationism in their curriculum.

What is Creationism?

When people think of creationism, they often think of the United States. However, South Korea is also the home of an anti-evolutionist movement. The publishers of high school textbooks have recently declared that they will be removing references to evolution from their textbooks. A group dubbed the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an independent organization that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research and has been the driving force behind the move. The STR has achieved its first victory by removing from textbooks examples of the evolution and ancestor of the bird, the Archeopteryx. Its sights are now set on removing snippets of Darwin's infamous finch research and on human evolution, too.

STR claims that it has the support of 4,000 families and individual members. Its aim is to root out what it regards as the "atheist materialism" that creates a bleak worldview for students. It also aims at countering the influence of American Creationists across the country. A survey of trainees in biology revealed that a majority of them didn't believe in evolution. The root causes are unclear however, they could be related to religious beliefs and the lack of full-time creation scientists in the country.

The KACR achieved many things through its seminars and lectures in the past. It has a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of them was a textbook on natural science that had a creationist perspective. It sparked interest in college communities. In 1991, a professor and 에볼루션사이트 minister started teaching Creation Science in one university and it continues to be taught until today.

On August 6 and 7, 1993, coinciding with the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from around the world including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of over a thousand. KACR members and KACR have also given talks on creation science in prestigious seminaries. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
