Fortunately, there are simple steps you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery on your own. Find a clean area to work on. Make a list of all the tools that you will need. Locate the battery's hatch and make sure that it is set to "open." Use a flathead screwdriver or coin or any other similar tool to make the hatch to open. Then, carefully pull out the battery by lifting the side closest to the hook of the key-ring. Wear rubber gloves to shield the clips and electronic contact surfaces.

Once the battery has been removed, insert the new one in its socket. Make sure that the positive side is facing up and that it is securely seated in all the clips. Then, slide the cover back downwards and towards the key-ring loop section until it is loose and [Redirect-302] then slides off. Take off the cover to reveal the hidden mechanical key blade. How to Start Your Vehicle

The battery can be replaced with a flathead screwdriver, plastic pry bar, or other small tools. Find the small hole that used to house the backup/emergency ignition key made of steel. Use the blade of a screwdriver or a prybar tool into the slot and gently pry the rear of the fob. After you have opened the fob, locate and remove the CR 2032 3V battery. Replace the battery, then snap the fob.

Note: Some older Volvos use a different type of battery which is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 tenths of millimeters thinner than a CR2032 battery, which means you must be extra careful when placing the battery of your replacement.
