World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading

The upgrade of an item upgrading lets players boost the gear rating of an item by up 700 points, and then add a bonus. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you take them to the kiln.

Certain items are worth upgrading because of their distinctive stats. (For example an excellently rolled breakpoint armor used in melee PvP). Other items such as weapons aren't changed much after an upgrade and therefore aren't worth it.

Weapons

Upgrades to weapons can improve their numerical stats, such as attack damage, crit chance and PvE/PvP damage. Weapons come with a flat-rate bonus that increases damage per second. The number of stones needed to upgrade a weapon will continue increase until it requires a higher tier of Smithing Stones, at which the number will be reset to one.

Upgraded weapons can also alter their base stats. While this is generally a good thing, it can have some negative consequences as well. Upgrades can render items unusable, unless you are exceptionally lucky.

It is possible to upgrade armor items to increase their stats. This can increase the defense of a helm or chest, while belts and gloves will increase their required strength and agility. Armor also has a reroll option for its Enhanced Defense percent, which means that it may reroll to a lower value.

The upgrade template of a weapon will display the new stats it will gain after upgrading, as well as the values of these stats. This means that the weapon will gain an attack damage of 3% if it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. However the 3% does not mean that it will hit for 3 fewer times because it's an absolute number.

Armor

The Snowquill Headdress, on the other hand, can be upgraded to +20 defense to ensure you're able to survive a battle with friends.

You can't upgrade items your armor like weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior then you should concentrate on upgrading your armor for physical power or the power of spells. Upgrade vendors can be found at the capitals of every zone, and sometimes in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets can be bought with tokens, gold or fragments of a rare trinket.

Upgrades are a cheaper alternative to buying a brand new trinket. One can upgrade a trinket for just 12 tokens. The new trinket comes with the same base level as the old trinket but will also have an additional bonus of 1% upgrade.

Trinkets can be re-upgraded once they are no longer needed, allowing a player to increase their power and value over time. They can be traded among players and are a viable alternative to gold.

Players should upgrade their most important items first. This usually means the best-in-slot items for their class, followed by their secondaries, and finally other pieces of gear that they will not be replacing in the near future (for instance rings or cloaks). Players should also take into consideration their class's preferred stats when choosing which items to upgrade. For example when Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for tankers, they should prioritize upgrading their helm, chest shoulders, belt, and helm.

Trinkets are able to be upgraded to a higher level once they no longer have value, and the new trinket will receive an additional 1% upgrade bonus. However, a re-upgrade is likely to cause the trinket to be destroyed in the event that it is not saved using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an additional salvage tool of higher quality.
