WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you an increase in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item upgrade used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item upgrade, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased from item upgraders NPCs for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be used on any weapon or tool with a button, which will show an image of the Item Level upgrade at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item level upgrade and the current item level. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Many locations offer item upgraders which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and the possibility of getting a new recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items at the start of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available through a variety means. This is both a benefit and a disadvantage.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item upgrades level will cost less. This is even if the items come from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available when certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a few options. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment of a particular rank, and each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade route costs 15 crests while the more complex one requires as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

For instance, when an item reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another significant modification is that crests have one purpose and it's crucial to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance, it's best to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
