286708_Volvo_Iron_Mark.jpg?How to Replace an audi etron key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

jaguar-logo.pngIn this video Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 using the grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can activate spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails the ECU will display a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and could indicate the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However, the code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky since there are two connector pins, and they perform different functions however the best method of testing it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. If the sensor is operational, it should be reading approximately 1000 ohms. Check for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll i had an abrupt drop in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing at all. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was dry. I put tissue over each injector hole, and when I start the engine with no sparks, the three with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I get zero Ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car can start when the G28 is unplugged and is running fine when it is plugged in, but still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. Also i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I feel like i've pretty much ruled everything else out. But i am afraid i might have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a salvage yard or from a parts store. Test them out - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's end). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that must know the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, for example. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and Audi A4 Key Replacement; Https://Auto-Locksmiths31995.Alltdesign.Com, an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you are experiencing issues with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause the engine shutting down.

Some of the symptoms of a failing G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal, and/or a misfire when you're in gear. It is possible that the sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. The good news is they are very cheap and easily accessible, especially in the case of a Bosch unit which is what we have. If you prefer, GM's version of this component is an excellent choice.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be the reason behind numerous issues with your vehicle. It is a crucial part of your audi q7 replacement key's transmission, because it communicates to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It sends a signal via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate the flow of fuel and boost and also timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between these two points. This is the same across the audi replacement key cost 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU, so you might find some good ones in wrecking yards.
